Community Involvement
The hospital will require help and input from the people of Tanzania. This will be done through the number of competent medical professionals with whom Dr. Seushi is already in contact, and who have already expressed a tentative commitment to be on staff with the new medical facility. Also, it will be done through the general population in the low-income area of Dar-es-Salaam, where it is to be located. By educating the community, either through treatment or through seminars, the people of that area will be better able to recognize signs and symptoms of diseases, and tend to them and also increase disease prevention.
The community can also be involved in getting more people to accept voluntary testing for HIV/AIDS. Stigma, which results in loss of jobs, also isolation and loneliness are major factors undermining voluntary testing. With enough commitment, Tanzanians can successfully wipe out the HIV/AIDS scourge to a large degree. So, the community will help by promoting voluntary testing, and the People's Hope Hospital will provide that testing, and thus someday play its part in wiping out HIV/AIDS in Tanzania.
Health and Nutrition
Presently, many pregnant Tanzanian women receive very little pre or post natal care. The People's Hope Hospital will provide such care. Through treatment and patient education, they will learn how to care not only for their children, but also how to assist other women with children.
The expectant mothers will also learn how to plan and prepare meals with increased nutritional values. They will learn how to cook from people in the community, so, they in return can pass on their skills to other community members. This will help further self-reliance, which has been an important part of Tanzania's policies since its independence from Britain
